This branch of the Louisiana State Museum was a United States Branch mint intermittently from 1838 to 1911, striking silver and gold coins. The museum maintains a one-room display dedicated to the history of the site, including notable Mint workers and innovators, relics and artifacts from the productive era, and numismatic specimens of the more famous "O"-mintmarked coins, including 1861 Confederate half dollars The building is also the temporary headquarters for the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park, featuring a live music auditorium, rotating exhibitions and a gift shop. Admission also free.
